When I was a kid I was terrified by rollercoasters. They seemed so…scary…because I always wondered when some freak accident would happen and the cart would go hurtling off the track and into the air. Well thankfully I can now experience the thrill of a rollercoaster ride from the comfort of my iPhone thanks to Digital Chocolate’s 3D Rollercoaster Rush.

Graphics & Gameplay
3D Rollercoaster Rush features some really gorgeous 3D graphics. I tested it on my iPhone 3G and the gameplay was very smooth. I’m sure it will perform even better on an iPhone 3G S. The sound is also quite good featuring a rollicking rock and roll riff that blends in well with the game’s visuals.

You have the option of playing the track or playing the race. If you play the track it’s just you and your passengers on the rollercoaster. If you play the race then it’s your job to beat your opponent and come in first place.

To accomplish this you need to adjust the speed of the cart by moving the on-screen speed control in the bottom left of your iPhone’s screen or by tilting your iPhone at the appropriate time. You want to go fast enough to win but not so fast that your passengers get flung out of the cart because of jumps that are too high.

Don’t worry, there’s no graphic scenes of your passengers falling to their deaths or otherwise getting whacked because you took a jump too high. They float down to the ground via parachute if you lose them.

In terms of fun factor, 3D Rollercoaster Rush is pretty good especially for a free game. I admit that I tended toward being a crazed speed demon and rather enjoyed flinging my passengers out of the cart by taking really high jumps.
