iTree: The Original Christmas Tree

Pages: 1 2

Well I’m very late with this review but iTree has been on my iPhone for a while so I wanted to get it done before we get much further past the holidays. Decorating a Christmas tree is a big part of celebrating Christmas. Unfortunately you can’t pick your Christmas tree up and take it with you nor can you email it to other people to show them what it looks like (okay you can email a photo of a real tree but don’t rain on my parade when I’m writing the intro to a review okay? Heh, heh).

iTree, from Treality Group, lets you decorate your own Christmas tree on your iPhone or iPod Touch. You can listen to music, add ornaments individually or choose to use a one-click option to have a full tree immediately. You can also change the background from a snowy night to a sunny day.

Interface & Graphics
iTree’s interface is uncluttered and easy to use. Just double tap the screen to bring up the buttons at the top and bottom of the screen. The top menu has the one-button-tree tool in the upper left, an on/off switch for music, the day/night option and then the information button to find out how to use the app and who the developers are.

The bottom menu has four different ornament buttons:

Bulbs
Candy Canes & Other Ornaments
Candles
Top Ornament

Note that you can cycle through different color bulbs by tapping the first ornament button. And you can do the same to see various ornaments with the second button which defaults to a candy cane. The color of the candles and top ornaments can also be changed by tapping the last two buttons. It’s a good way to add alot of choices without making the interface too cluttered.

To decorate the tree just drag your ornaments onto it and place them wherever you like. If you decide you don’t want an ornament you’ve put on the tree, just drag it off to the side and let it go. It will drop off the screen altogether. It’s too bad we can’t do that in real life…imagine all the broken bulbs and other headaches if we tried it?

The graphics in iTree are well done and quite pretty. I particularly liked the snow falling in the background and the night background. A very beautiful picture of a Christmas tree indeed. It put me in the Christmas mood for sure.
