Editorial Change: We’ll Cover Commercial Apps Too!
Well I’ve changed the title of the blog back and removed the “free” designation as it seems that app vendors will now be able to give codes to reviewers so we can easily get commercial software and betas for review purposes.
Apple has finally started allowing developers to issue free promotional copies of their iPhone applications. Once an application has been accepted to the App Store by Apple, developers can issue up to 50 promotional codes. The codes allow the recipient to download a full copy of the application for free. Presently, these codes can only be used in the U.S. iTunes Stores by using the “Redeem” link in the App Store.
This eliminates one of the biggest aggravations when it comes to writing app and game reviews. I didn’t want to deal with asking Apple for iTunes credits in order to write reviews. So now that the codes are available, I will try to get review copies of some of the more popular commercial apps.
I make no promises though as the final decision will be up to the app vendors. If they choose not to give a code then that’s that and I won’t be able to cover the app. I suspect though that most will be happy to get coverage for their apps.
Enjoy the blog? Feel free to leave a tip by buying me a cup of coffee. Thanks!
