The 10 Best Free iPhone Travel Apps
#3 NY Traffic Cams
If you live in the New York area then you know that traffic can be a hellish experience. NY Traffic Cam lets you access hundreds of live traffic cams in the New York area. Why wonder what’s going on when you can take a peek at traffic situation right on your iPhone 3G? It might just help you save time by avoiding sitting in traffic when in the New York area.
#2 SitOrSquat
We’re all human and, sooner or later, we have to answer the call of nature to relieve ourselves. And we all know how awful it is to suddenly realize that you don’t know where the nearest bathroom is when you need to go! SitOrSquat might be the invaluable tool you need when you’re in a rush to find a place to…er…clear your cache.
Why suffer in agony when you can use SitOrSquat?
#1 Google Earth
Google Earth for iPhone 3G is a free download from the app store that weighs in at a petite 8.9MB. The application lets you zoom around and view the same aerial and satellite imagery found in the desktop version. And Google Earth for the iPhone goes beyond what the desktop version can do by utilizing multi-touch on the iPhone.
In the iPhone 3G version of Google Earth you can tilt your iPhone to adjust the view and you can zoom in by pinching or expanding a pinch like you can with other iPhone apps. And you can tilt your iPhone on its side and expand the view via the iPhone’s built-in accelerometer. You can also move the screen around by touching the screen and moving your finger around.
One very cool thing that you can is search for food, entertainment, etc. that is local to your location. For example, I typed “chinese food” into the search box and found a bunch of local chinese food restaurants in my area. It’s a very, very convenient and fast way to find local attractions of interest and it’s particularly great if you’re starving and looking for a certain kind of food.

Bonus App: Scribular
Ever wonder what people are thinking when they visit a place? Well wonder no more! Scribular lets you read notes left by others and lets you leave your own notes at your current location. Who knows what kind of juicy secrets or inside dish you might find about a particular destination…
That’s it for this iPhone 3G travel apps round up. I hope you’ll find it useful on your next trip!
