Google Earth
Google Earth has proven to be one of Google’s most popular products and why not? If you’ve ever installed it on your PC or Mac you already know what fun it is to zoom around and check out various places on the planet including your own current location. Well now you can do the same thing right on your iPhone 3G.
Google Earth for iPhone 3G is a free download from the app store that weighs in at a petite 8.9MB. The application lets you zoom around and view the same aerial and satellite imagery found in the desktop version. And Google Earth for the iPhone goes beyond what the desktop version can do by utilizing multi-touch on the iPhone.
In the iPhone 3G version of Google Earth you can tilt your iPhone to adjust the view and you can zoom in by pinching or expanding a pinch like you can with other iPhone apps. And you can tilt your iPhone on its side and expand the view via the iPhone’s built-in acceleromoter. You can also move the screen around by touching the screen and moving your finger around. Frankly once you get used to using Google Earth on the iPhone 3G you sort of end up wishing that you could have the same kind of multi-touch functionality on the Mac/Windows version.
The iPhone 3G version also lets you view the Panoramio layer to see geo-located photos and it also lets you do the same with geo-located Wikipedia articles. This is very cool if you are looking for And you can also search for locations around the globe and zoom in on them.
